Durrrr Challenge: Dwan Celebrates The Holidays With A $937,000 Lead
Published on 25 Dec 09 by Mike Gibbs
It seems as if everyone has gone home for the holidays, what with the high stakes tables being unusually tranquil on Full Tilt Poker. Even the dark horse, Isildur1, has been put out of commission by a recent issue on collusion by his opponents. It is not a surprise, then, that Antonius and Dwan found themselves face to face on the Durrrr Challenge once again. This time, however, it seems that Dwan’s the one who will be having a happy Christmas, as he came out with a $937,000 lead.
See-Sawing in the Felt
Games between Antonius and Dwan are always friendly, what with their being on the same team and also their being good friends. However, this tight friendship does nothing to deter their ruthless poker skills. These guys are just relentless, mercilessly driving at the other with unyielding talent and throughout the session, one could never truly say who would end up the winner. The lead was see-sawing between Antonius and Dwan.
The game started out in Dwan’s favor, with him earning a profit of $125,000 early on. In fact, just thirty minutes into the game, the two of them were already cracking out the 6-figures. The first large pot was worth an impressive $169,594 – a large pot that was thanks mostly to Antonius’ decision to go all in. However, despite his bravery for going all in, Antonius still wasn’t able to beat Dwan’s hand and the $169,594 pot was shifted to the latter.
But Antonius was never one to take this kind of thing lying down. He immediately countered with his own offensive and, at one point, even got a nice $225,000 lead. However, the session was decided ultimately by the two biggest pots of the night. None of them were epic, as in largest-pot-in-online history epic. But they were both enough to hand a comfortable lead to Dwan.
The biggest pot came at $259,000. It was, this time, Dwan who went all in with $140,581. Antonius called and practically forfeited his last $55,788 when Dwan revealed his six-high straight. The second highest pot came at a close $238,674, almost at the very end of the session. Again, Dwan revealed another straight, this time a jack-high one, and nabbed the pot.
The Result
The Overall result of their session was an impressive win for Dwan. More than 2000 hands played and he emerges as the session’s winner, with a profit of $225,715 and a lead of $937,271. They now played a total of 29,764 in all. The Durrrr Challenge is clearly nearing its 30k mark and with that, there are only 20k hands left to play. Who knows when they’ll finish? But one thing’s for sure, the game can still swing either way.
